These events draw locals and visitors alike and are all about fun over finish times… though the scenery alone might make you PR without trying.

There’s nothing like Independence Day in the Florida Keys—where fireworks meet palm trees, and the party ends with a Key lime pie. Whether you’re visiting on vacation, living the dream locally, or dreaming about moving here, the 4th of July is a perfect time to soak up all the magic our island chain has to offer.

Here are my top five favorite ways to celebrate the 4th of July, Keys-style:

There’s something unforgettable about seeing fireworks light up the sky over turquoise waters. Charter a boat or join a fireworks cruise out of Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, or Key West. Pack a cooler, grab your favorite people, and toast to freedom with ocean breezes in your hair.
